Hay guy m8 just called me and he got a virus or some thing on his pc and it sound like some thing my pc had a year ago.

What it did was change the backround picture to some like ( u have spyware u need this blah blah tool to remove it

And i think it removes all desktop icons as.

And now its not letting him boot windows xp so i am not sure how he could fix only by restalling windows thats how i sorted it

This sounds like something I had a while ago and its the worst thing I've ever had on a PC and was all my own fault too as I wasn't paying attention when I clicked OK to something.

All the online guides to shift it didn't work. Task Manger was disabled somehow and some other stuff I've forgotten.

It is a devil to remove - Gave up - Fresh install.

1) boot into safe mode (f8 on boot).
2) install AV (a recognised AV - not he one advertised on the desktop) run scan
3) install ad-aware/spybot run scan
4) if this fails, nuke it from orbit.

Once fixed, a recommendation for both of you: have an AV installed.

Believe you me I tried a million and one ways to shift it using recommened malware removal tools. No chance.

Cheers for the help i guess his best bet is to reinstall windows but he got AV anyways
