right, i've got that MS removal tool malware somewhere on my new PC.

First time, it appeared as Windows 7 Security Tool or something. I could not start any programs, use system restore, or anything. In the end, i booted in safe mode and restored to a previous point, but as i don't bac up regularly, it was only to a point 2 days previous.

A few days later, the same problem, your PC is infected, blah blah blah. This time it was called Microsoft Ultimate Security.
I was in a hurry, so i just did the same thing in restoring it to the same point.
It has happened 3 times now, so it must be there somewhere.

Spybot, MS security, Kaspersky do no detect anything, but it must be there, as i fully expect it to happen again in a few days:(

Whats the best thing i can do to get rid of it?

Am i going to have to re-install windows, because that will be a massive hassle for reasons that i will not go in to, as it will bore you;)

Download and install Malwarebytes AntiMalware and run that. It's usually best to run it in safe mode... It's helped me countless times.

i though spybot S+D was supposed to be pretty good, but it has found nothing?

It was really annoying me earlier, as it stops any attempt to remove it outside of safe mode. it even stops you playing videos ffs!

It must be on the system somewhere waiting to activate, as it has appeared roughly 2 days after a system restore 3 times now.

I have never really had any problems with a virus before that i couldn't sort out with spybot or a system restore.

What are the thoughts on Microsoft Security Essentials? as it is the security suite i have been using since my kaspersky ran out a few months ago, after someone told me it was good
Cheers for the replies:)

MSE is what I use and it works fine.

Download rkill, it will find it. It is a tiny programme and will only take a few seconds. I have used it on numerous other people PC's who have got infected just to see where it is hiding. It will not get rid of it but you will be able to see for sure where it is.

I never bother with system restore, usually causes more problems than it fixes.

What I would do with a virus is back up your data, and wipe windows.

As for protection, I personally use AVG free for my anti virus and comodo firewall for my firewall.

Browse with Firefox and havent seen a virus on my system in many many years.

Neither have i really. when i got my laptop a few years ago i had a few problems, but taht was specific to that laptop. That's why i was wondering about MSE, as i have only started using it recently, and it happened on it's watch, so to speak.

re-installing Windows will be a hassle, as i have 2 1tb's in raid 0, and have lost the raid drivers. also have 500gb of steam games. 400gb of music/photo's and around 500gb of videos on them
