Hi all,

Just removed a few viruses and Trojans from a computer and discovered the Virus/Trojan had turned off a load of Microsoft essentials services like Windows Security Center, Windows Firewall, Windows Update, Windows Restore etc.

Is there a way of reverting these changes quickly? Rather than having to find everything the Virus has changed?

Thanks,

Is there any reason why a data backup and then a fresh Windows install would be particularly inconvenient? If not then I would be inclined to just do that.

Just helping a friend out and don't have all the neccesary install discs.

I'm running the System File Checker a few times to see if anything has been corrupted.

Any other such things I should do?

If you look at the list of fixes, it processes a ton of things. It should be fine, but it's a 3rd party tool registering DLL's and changing reg keys.

It's possible that a Windows Update conflict with the changes they make.

Not had any troubles with it, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.
