Virus virgin.

I think I have just had my first infection. I booted my laptop up and my mse was off and wouldn't allow me to turn it on. None of my virus scans or system restore would work either.
I tried rkill and that would not work either (even renamed). I had to go into safe mode, eset didn't find anything so I just did a system restore and all seems ok now.
Now the thing I am wondering is how did I get infected? I don't surf dodgy sites and no dodgy emails have been opened or received.
Is there anything else I should do to make sure it has gone for good?

Install and run Malwarebytes.

Fully patched with windows and I am running malwarebytes now. Mse came up clear. Malwarebytes did just say it's database was corrupt so it is downloading another one.

Malwarebytes quick scan was ok. I am now doing a full scan to see if that picks anything up.

Malwarebytes now stopped responding half way through. I have to leave it now as home time but I will crack on with it tmrw.

try combofix if you get desperate.
It's supposed to be like a last resort but I just go straight to it and skip all the faffing about and so far it's never let me down with friends and families laptops.

most viruses seem to come from adverts on websites stick adblock plus on and just disable it on sites that don't let you watch videos with it enabled like skygo etc (on most on demand websites it lets you skip the adverts all together

)

My laptop is at work so I will have a go tmrw. I use chrome and have adblock plus installed. I am thinking I might have clicked a video on facebook by accident.

You don't need to surf dodgy websites. All it takes is one out of date plug-in and a compromised website. The number one most dangerous plug-in is Java.

that's possible some of them aren't even videos I'm like why the **** are people so stupid to share this?

Thanks. I used the secunia PSI it said I was all ok. I have done a few virus scans this morning and it seems all ok .
