Visa Electron

I'm off to Amsterdam on Thursday and was wondering if I could use my Visa electron to pay for stuff out there? If I can how is the exchange rate worked out and is it the same rate if I took cash out there or would Halifax charge me more?

The card is with Halifax. I doubt I'll be able to get a new card in time and I don't really want to take all my money in cash.

I think my best bet would be to withdraw cash each day but do Visa charge for withdrawals as well?

Does anyone know how much cash you're allowed to take on a plane? IIRC I think it was 1k.

I thought there was a limit. Maybe to stop people taking suitcases of money abroad is my guess.
