Hello my girlfriend is AUS and has a 2 year visa to be in this country 1 year of which she can work here. The working part of it has almost expired, and she has just found out her work will not sponsor her.

She has grandparents that are english so she can apply for a 5 year ancestory visa.

Is there any way she can do this in europe instead of going back to australia otherwise she may have to leave her job.

Any information or usefull links would be greatly apreciated as we are both really pannicking about this!

Thanks in advance.

Not quite like that im english and she was assured that her company were going to sponsor her but it has all fallen through at the last hurdle.

We have only been together for a year still a bit too soon.

I am outraged that she cant stay longer there must be something we can do. Im just praying the ancestory visa will work. Does anyone know you can do this?

I am trawling through the link that was given above as we speak.

What good is a cynic who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing? :)

The Visa laws are ridiculous, terrorists get state benefits, whilst decent and intelligent people, in some cases deadly ill people, are all removed. Or in this case, good people have to leave to simply adhere to a pointless formality of having to apply from abroad, rather than locally.

It is a disgrace.

My thoughts exactly!!!

I am so angry about all this!

We have been together for a year adn living together for 4 months, and she could end up losing her job of nearly a year becuase she is forced to go back for a long period of time!

Is there anywhere in europe she can apply for an ancestry visa?

She has all the relevent documents.

I really am so appauled that someone who has worked in a very good job paying an insane amount of tax has to return to her country just to apply for a permit to stay here. Will cost almost £1000 and possible her job.

When there are people living in this country who have convictions etc.

There must be an easier way.

IIRC she has to be in Australia to apply for the visa. That's how it was for me.

How long does the process take?

I mean if she goes back she wants to be back asap!

Also does it matter that she still has a year left on her visa (but the working bit is up). I mean can you only apply when the visa has completly expired.

Hold on a second are you guys telling me she cant get an ancestry visa even if she goes back to australia now???

She has an english grandparent and all the relative forms to accompany it, if she goes back and applies is this possible?

Yer spoke to someone at the home office and the aus embassey and they both said it was fine to return to her own country and going on all her credentials they said she was almost certain to get one.
