Is there any free 'counter' that I can incorporate into my website to register individual visitors? Not really for statistical purposes but just as a 'quick measure' as to activity and also to make it look 'busier' in the early days.

I don't want one with adverts!

TIA - Dave

Visitor counters scream amateurism. When you first install them they make the site look unpopular and quiet with only a handful of hits registering, unless you start the counter at a few thousand, which then defeats the purpose of having one to record hits in the first place. Also, they usually register individual hits on that page rather than individual visits. Which is a bit of a pointless bit of information in most cases as having 1000 hits on the homepage just means that that page has been called 1000 times, possibly only between 450 actual visitors, but you'll have no idea.

The best thing you can do is drop Google Analytics on there. It records hits and visitors per page, and stores better visitor information that can actually be used to build up a picture on how your website is doing. It's free and is really easy to install and use.

What he said.

Although, it gave me a weird idea to drop a hit counter in my sig somehow, so everyone else can see how many hits it gets. :p

But then again, I need some new sigs anyway…
