Don't do the tests on a Conroe as that chip disables some of its performance enhancements when operating in 64-bit mode (namely, macro-ops fusion)
NathanE said:1. Yes it is. WHQL driver signing requires that both a 32-bit and 64-bit driver be submitted in a combined package and both must pass the tests. This is a huge incentive for hardware vendors to produce 64-bit drivers
Sounds familiar - HP did exactly the same with some of their "home" products when 2000 came out as they deigned it to be a business OS.tolien said:Unfortunately, not every manufacturer gives a toss about WHQL qualification - for example, Canon won't support 64 bit on some of their scanners
That includes some that are still on sale
3DMark05 will be a no use at all in testing the 32 bit subsystem as its biggest dependence will be on the graphics driver which will of course be fully 64 bit.testa12 said:3DMark 05 was a good one to try or any other test that isnt aware of x64
Buy a cheap Ethernet print server and host your printer on that?JaseUK said:When I last checked Lexmark printers didn't support 64 bit and had no intentions of doing so.
Problem is I have a lexmark printer, bummer!!!!!!!!!
I am so confused 64 or 32, 64 or 32, 64 or 32 ????????????????????
I have chosen my new 7200.10 250GB for vista to be installed on, only prob now is to chose which vista to go for, I think OEM vista ultimate.
The initial 3DMark2001, was very CPU dependent.NathanE said:One of the earlier 3D Mark's may be useful though as I'd expect they're more CPU bound nowadays. Don't quote me on this.

testa12 said:It would make sense to bring both OS versions up-to-date on the patching. Gives a more realistic impression of what people are currently likely to use.
JaseUK said:To be honest there are plenty of pros and cons for both 32bit and 64bit but I am still not 100% sure of what to go for.
I guess I will take the plunge for the 64bit as I would hate it if i was not future proofing my PC, well isnt that why why I spent a fortune upgrading all my hardware.
