I know that I need to do a fresh install for this, I just want to make sure that all I have to do is delete my current Vista partition and then install Windows 7 to the same partition. Will I have to reinstall all my other software if its not installed onto the Vista partition now?

hi mate the best thing you can do is boot up from the windows 7 disk then when you get the choice where you want to install it find the partition that you have vista installed on and delete it, (cant remember what key you press off the top of my head but it does tell you) then create a new partition with the free space you have on your HD from deleting the vista partition. As for installing your software yes mate you will have to re install everything you want for windows 7 to run, so if you have any important docs etc on your vista partiton make sure your back them all up first

hope this helps

As Liam says boot from the DVD to launch Windows Setup. When it asks you "What type of installation do you want?" choose "Custom". Select the partition you want to install to, click "Drive options", choose "Format" and acknowledge the warning, then click "Next" and the installation will begin.

You won't necessarily have to re-install every bit of software you have installed to separate partitions. Some will rely on components installed to C: or registry information, requiring a re-install to work again, some won't, some may recreate the bits they need automatically (like Steam), it'll depend entirely on the application.
