Vista 64 and 9800GT issue *RESOLVED*

I've just built a new Vista-64 Home premium PC. Q6600, 4Gb Patriot PC6400 (4,4,4,12), Gigabyte Ga-EP43-S3L mobo, Zotac 9800GT, 460W Power supply, One 250Gb SATA drive WD, and a couple of legacy IDE DVD drives and a legacy Belkin wireless PCI card. Stock clockspeeds for now. Temps fine.

Install went fine but the graphics are dog slow. 3DMark06 of 283  thats right, less than 1 FPS.

Examining the error log shows multiple Event 14 nvlddmkm errors. display drivers removed and re-installed version 180.48. Cleaned install in safe mode.

The thing is that when I counted the errors, there were 60/second. That got me thinking, so I changed the display refresh rate to 72Hz and guess what? there are now 72 errors/second. Anyone able to shed some light on this at all?

Just to add, I did a full reinstall overnight in the following order:

OS
chipset drivers
audio drivers
graphics drivers

checking the event log at each stage. after the graphics drivers were installed, the event 14 errors reappeared.

Make sure any additional power connectors are attached to the card :)

Other than that it sounds like this problem people seem to be having

Thanks for the link. Tried the latest beta 180.84 as opposed to the WHQL 180.48's and that seems to have done the trick. Now for some OCing.
