Trying to reinstall 64 bit vista which was working wonderfully well. Fitted 2 new hard drives 300gb in raid o Westernigital Raptors 1000rpm now having problems reinstalling vista.

First attempt was ok until the updates came down and it reported the registry was missing so tried again and this time another file was missing.

Intalled it a third time and had to repair windows then got the updates in and now SP1 wont install at all saying there is a problem with windows.

Things were ok with my old hard drives seagtaes 300gb 7500rpm just wanted something faster for gaming and video editing.

Are there some problems with the WD drives that I should know about??

Any help apprectiated.

64 Bit installation problems

Hi

XFX 780i Mobo
4gb SLI ready memory
2 x WD VelociRaptor SATA Hard Drive in Raid 0 Fitted yesterday

had problems installing 64 Bit Vista, no problems perviously with my old seagate HD's

Got 32 bit intalled on the WD drives late yesterday with no problems complete with all updates including SP1

Tried this morning reinstalling 64 bit and I got as far as the first large updates with no problems

Then there were 2 updates for the Nvidia raid controller for the mobo

The installing was taking forever well over 15 mins then it says it cannot install

I restart and there is DOS screen telling me some files are missing cant remember what they were but to insert vista disc and repair windows.

Cant repair when trying it says send error report.

I have tried 2 64 bit disc installations but I get as far as the nvidia updates.

Never had anything like this before...

Any help really appreciated.

Vista 64

Hi
I had the same problem tring ti install vista ultimate 64 on my second 500 seagate sata drive, i have xp pro 64 on my first one, i tried for about 3 days ti install vista , but with no luck i first thought it had somethink to do with the 8gig of ram i had installed so i removed 4 of that and it was still the same, in the end i believe it has somethink to do with the sata drivers, so i installed a 500 ide drive on my primary, and hay presto installed first time.
Although its not the answer but at least its on and i have got another 500gb to play with.
Good Luck
John
