Anyone else having trouble with drivers?

Went to install 3 bits of hardware yesterday, all I have used with XP SP2 flawlessly.

First was an old serial connected graphics tablet. Have the CD for that, but no drivers would work.

Second was my old mp3 player - it usually showed up as a removable hard drive on XP - not working on Vista.

Third was my phone (k800i), didnt recognise that, have the CD it came with, no drivers on it that I could use.

Oh and another thing was a friends USB stick, Vista wanted drivers for that, none found so couldn't use.

I suppose it isn't really Microsofts fault, more the manufacturers of the hardware, but I can't help but wonder how Microsoft have managed to exclude the programming that made all these things work perfectly on XP without the need for lengthly trawling of the net for drivers.

Who makes the graphics tablet and MP3 player and what are there model numbers?

Software for the K800i can be found and downloaded here PC Suite & Disc2Phone.

Pretty sure PC suite from SE doesnt work on vista yet , at least it didnt a month ago.

It does now as I'm running it :p but only for a select few phones and there's a thread on it here, still no SEUS though :(

Wacom Vista Drivers

Your iRiver should show up in Vista as a hard disk when plugged in. Plug it in and go to Start right click on Computer>Manage>Disk Management. See if it's there as it may need to be initialised/formatted before it will show up.

If it's not there then see if you have any missing drivers in device manager, and make sure you've installed motherboard/chipset drvers.

Thank you for the Wacom driver, wonder why the Europe Wacom site didnt have that driver? Will try installing this tonight and hopefully I can stop moaning.

I though that it should show up as a hard disk, I tried choosing disk drivers in Vista but it didnt like that. Will give the disk management a go when I get home too.

I had that happen with my USB stick. It wouldn't work when I stuck it in the USB slot, kept asking for drivers and stating that it wasn't working, but then I moved it to a different USB slot (the one right next to the original) and it worked fine. Bit confused about why that would be, but there ya go.
