I've only had this on my system for about a week now but it's been fine apart from a couple of niggles. One thing that's bugging me at the moment though is the folders never seem to save their settings. I want all my folders to display using the List view. I have been into the organise menu and applied it to all folders. However, some folders still don't view with the List view and I don't know why. Am I doing it wrong? Is there another setting somewhere else I have to use?

Put the following into notepad and save as blah.reg:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
"FolderType"="NotSpecified"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00004e20

Then run the file and accept the prompts etc.

Then change a folder to how you want them all to look.

Now go into Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to folders.

Works for me :)

Ok, will give it a try.

I get this. Quite annoying. I don't want all folders the same but I do want folders to remember how I've set them up.

Control Pabel > Folder options > View ?
Remember each folder's view settings?

Mine is checked yet not all folders keep the settings I want. :(

@Craig321 - What does that do? And what if I want some folders to have certain settings but other folders to have different settings? Can I still use that?

The registry script I posted will basically remove all folder view entries, set the default view to "NotSpecified", so basically all folders will be your default view which is why you need to use the "Apply to all Folders" button.

The following modification will increase the amount of folder views that Vista remembers so it might help:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:00004e20

The other registry modifications in post #4 could help Vista remember the folder views (although I think you'd need to set them using right click > customize folder),.

The 'script' doesn't remove anything to do with Vista remembering folder views, so I don't see any harm in trying it. I've used it myself and have set My Music to list view and My Pictures to thumbnail view and it's stuck ever since :)

Its because MS messed up and keep the entries for XP even though they do NOTHING.

Cheers. I'll try the reg stuff in your last post then the one you posted originally if that doesn't work.

Wouldn't surprise me. I'll give those links a read too. Ta. :)

I strongly advise you do not mess with anything other than the 2 guides state.

The Top guide used to be a manual tweak but now its auto by means of a .REG, he is the one who worked it all out.

The 2nd guide was not 100% accurate until it took info from the Top guides older manual tweak.

Another thing is not to mess with folders on your desktop (ie mess with albums or movies in folder on your desktop, move them to somewhere else or you can end up with it all messed up again.
