I finally made the transition to Vista on a new build. However in 3 weeks I have had to do three fresh reinstalls. this is because the control panel, windows updates, etc cease to work - just get blank box. Now the reason is because the SL LU notification and software licensing services fail - they can not be turned back on - reporting they can not find the file. On the last two occassions I had done nothing - no new drivers/software etc. I suspected windows update had corrupted the CLL files the first time so that was turned off.

Anyone any ideas why this might happen?

Also I have only managed to get a USB pen working once. Nothing wrong with any of the ports. I am beginning to hate the thing.

Build as in signature

try try try again! I reinstalled it 3 times before it worked properly.

I had problems with the updates and my mobo I think. I got it working randomly by forgetting to run the cd for the mobo and running the updates straight away, only when I had updated them all did I realise I forgot the mobo CD so I installed that and it all seems to work now.

Do you have a gigabyte mobo by any chance

yea i had the same problem when installing vista just have to do all updates after installed and if it works your good to go but if theres problems i found that you generaly had to start from the begining again sucks but true

I made the mistake of not downloading and burning a Service Pack 1 DVD of Vista 64-bit Retail after I bought my pre-SP1 copy. Wish I had because I also had headaches with 4 GB RAM Bluescreens, and Windos update issues...

seen the vista 64 and just want to jump in with a question (vaguely related)

is one of the main differences between 32bit and 64bit OS that you can essentially only have up to 4gb of RAM in 32b and up to 64gb? of ram in the latter

just trying to grasp the main differences between the two (yes I'm older than you :p)
