What is the SysWOW64 folder actually for, as i noticed it is taking up about 35GB of space the same amount of space as the System32 folder. In total my windows folder is taking up 92GB, why is this so much, is there anyway to get this smaller???

Disable Hibernation
Disable System Restore

2 Quick ways to reduce space used.

SysWOW64 is a bit like system32 for x64 so don't you go trying to delete it

Disabling them will reduce space used but as far as I know neither of them store their files within the Windows folder. Personally I wouldn't recommend disabling system restore anyway as it can be a life saver if you install an update or driver which decides it doesn't want to play nice...

Something is seriously messed up if your Windows folder is 92gb, for comparison my system32 folder is 2.6gb and SysWOW64 985mb. Did you install this copy of Windows yourself or is it a prebuilt machine?

Ahh didn't read his post properly, didn't see it was specifically windows folder taking up 92gb.

Download CCleaner and see if it brings it down at all, could be some duff file in one of the temp folders or similar?

Either that or maybe you've accidentally dragged and dropped something stupidly big in the windows folder by accident?

also go and search the windows folder for *.*, it will take a while buy once its done sort by size and see if there's anything stupidly big in there.

Ok will, do yeah i installed vista myself, its the ultimate edition if that makes a difference on size!? On a side note, it was the DiskState program listing the windows directory as 93GB
