Vista 64bit or 32bit? Hmmm.

Hey there. Ok. I can get vista business for free. I installed the 64bit edition a while back but had quiet a few problems with it. I couldn't burn in iTunes, I couldn't have my anti-virus working correctly (mcaffee at the time) and some driver issues.

Now, I've gone back to XP MCE 05. I want to continue to stream tv from my pc to my xbox 360 when I move into my new house in june after uni finishes, so home premium is what I'm going for.

My questions is....would there be much of a difference between 32bit/64bit of vista for my setup, and has anyone sorted the itunes burning problem on the 64bit edition?

They are both the same price oem, and cheaper than anytime upgrade from the vista business I get for free.

I would upgrade my ram to 4gb, but OCUk doesn't seem to sell my RAM anymore. :(

Never mind, i've ordered the 32 bit now. If I get enough money to upgrade to 4Gb and a new graphics card, i'll rebuy it. :p
 
Ok, too late, but 32v64 is never something you need to ask these days.

Its 64Bit all way.

You got 64Bit PC and 64Bit everything... Why cripple it wit hshabby 32Bit OS that MS only released to keep all the celeron farts happy

I'm still left thinking MS missed a trick here, I wouldn't have bothered releasing a 32 bit version. Besides 32 vs 64 has a bad stigma from XP 32 vs XP 64 which was different as XP64 was based off server 2003 64. If you ask the majority of people they will believe 64 bit driver support in vista is lacking compared to vista 32 bit.

No longer true. 64-bit driver support is excellent.
 
If Microsoft only released Vista x64 it would have been a critical success from day one. Because XP x64 just doesn't compare.
 
64-bit!

Not had any problems with the fact that a few bits of software aren't supported on x64 (mostly software with unsigned drivers). Love it :)
 
ACtually with the driver issues, sure XP32 had much better support than XP64, that stands to reason, and when they released Vista, the driver support naturally improved massively for 64Bit, and this in turn also helped boost XP64 driver development too!

One thign that does bug me is the number of people who still seem to think that Vista64 can do things better than XP64, or that software that does not run in XP64 will magically run in Vista64 ? - it does not.

If it does not run in XP64 then it wont run in Vista64 Either, and the number of apps these days that wont run in a 64Bit O/S are nearly extinct, or are just old apps anyway.

yes but my point is if we say yep get 64bit you've have no problems, then when he gets it and if one of his favourite app ir game doesn't work he'll be disappointed. i have some apps that won't run on 64bit. that why im just pointing it out.

I have a 50-50 view on this point though...

Firstly, I like to use PAGEDEFRAG... This does not work in 64Bit anything, and thats a shame, but there are alternatives... Not as good but there you go.

Partition Manager - this half worked in XP64 but had issues, again, I had to get Acronis and this piddled me off as I have not long bought PM and so that was a waste of money in many ways.

Games. Now, I am tryign to work out what games I have, that dont work in 64Bit, and there are none. Sure, I got a few really old cruddy DOS games that dont work, but then considering they dont often work in XP32bit either, its a dummy point.

To be quite honest, the number of things that dont work in 64Bit is so low, that even bringing up the piont, is really a dummy arguement from the off... If oyu do have software that does not work in 64Bit then your software is too old.

hmmm, e.g manycam, wabcammax they are not old apps but doesn't support 64bit, also some games that i bought from yahoo and virginmedia sites doesn't work on 64bit. i can't remember which games because it was 2 months ago..
 
i just installed 64bit xp, seems to take longer to boot than my previous 32bit one.. anyone else find that??
