Hi,

I've got a problem that is very frustrating concerning the 'hibernate' mode with windows vista. I accidently got my pc to hibernate last night and quite stupidly held down the power button to turn my pc off as I simply wanted to switch it off. Now it appears that when I boot my pc it boots then will restart itself and then after that the PC turns on, all fans going, DVD drive, mb etc but the keyboard, mouse and monitor are non responsive.

The keyboard and mouse don't appear to be powered as I've tried pressing capslock on the keyboard and its not on. I have a feeling it's mainly to do with turning the pc off while in standby via the power switch and possibly my power management options too.

My monitor is on but the green light shows it is in standby and nothing appears on the screen so I cannot do anything which is very frustrating. I've tried restarting it, turning off at the plug socket etc. but still no change.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

(I haven't done anything different recently to have caused this change, the only thing I have done is turning off via the power switch whilst in standby)

Hmm that is weird. Vista does it to me sometimes (non-responsive keyboard and mouse) but I can always see what is going on-screen. Mine are wireless usb keyboard/mouse and I have to keep a spare PS/2 keyboard handy just in case.

Have you tried holding down the delete key while it is booting to see if you can get into the BIOS screen?

Well I'm using a USB keyboard at the moment and I held down delete when I switched it on, and when it rebooted itself and nothing happened. Not sure if I have a PS/2 keyboard to try and do the same thing though.

Do you have a Live CD that you can try? Like an Ubuntu Linux CD or something. Personally I would try that and pray your boot order is set to look at the CD drive first. It's odd that you're seeing nothing on screen at all - not even the POST screen etc.

It's basic but always worth checking - is your VGA/DVI cable properly connected between your PC and monitor?

You can use the Vista DVD to repair the boot operations so might be worth giving that a try.

Just boot using the Vista DVD and have a look though the options there, can't remember where exactly it is.

Unplug the computer
Remove the Bios Battery (Looks like a large watch battery)
Short out the battery connections using a piece of metal like a screwdriver while holding the power button
Replace battery, plug back in the computer and power on
