Hey,

Just installed Vista - its great - but when I try to copy files from my old hard drive (from Xp's /Document and settings/Richard/Desktop) etc... I get loads of access denied errors... i think i forgot to remove my password on XP's account so all the files are technically protected... now i cant even access them on Win XP...

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Right click folder -> Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Edit -> Click your user -> Replace owner on subcontainers and groups -> Apply, ok etc etc.

Also instead of the Owner tab, under Permissions -> Edit -> Add your user with full access -> Replace all tick box ... -> Apply, ok etc.

That's normally how I reset the permissions.

Though before after doing that I wasn't able to log into the user account in question, but I could access the files from another OS fine :)

thansk for the replys, im tried those methods but its practically the whole hard drive.. when ever I try right clicking on the folder/file and go to the security tab, trying to allow me to access it, I get something from Vista saying "you must get access from your administrator"... then it pops up asking me if i'd allow it so i click allow... but it doesnt seem to do anything... really annoying me now :( :(

Try turning off UAC and see if it lets you copy the files ok then. You can then turn UAC back on when your finished.
