Hi!

I have received my oem copy of vista and intended to install it straight away. However my motherboard just died (thankfully before I installed vista!!), and although it's under warranty I've been quoted 3-4 weeks for a replacement :( . I am tempted to dual boot it on my second pc, but am totally paranoid that it will self activate when i connect to the internet (as i want to use the 30 day evaluation then install it on my gaming pc). Could this happen or do you have to manually activate?

when you install, you have the option of de-selecting the tick box which says automatically activate windows or something similar... You won't miss it as its right at the bottom of the product key screen, iirc

This is correct. De-select the box and you can then manually activate anytime within the 30 day period.

Is there anyway of de-selecting it if its already been set to 'auto activation'

Just that im toying with the idea of getting a new graphics card and it would be easier to swap it before vista was activated

Shouldn't have a problem a swapping gfx card surely?

dont put a key in when you install ,chose the version that you have purchased ,then it cannot activate until you put in the key later
