Vista aero? slows everything down!

Re-tested again & windows classic/basic look ok but vista basic oh my!

This time i did notice windows opening slightly faster but thats likely because others don't have the Windows Zooming Effect & opening the windows any faster would make the effect useless.

Maybe they should have have had an option to disable the zoom if there is not already.

XP starts up faster (well it gets to the login screen quicker), but Vista loads everything faster when logged on.

Ain't had one crash with Vista yet, but to be fair my XP hadn't crashed once either since I got this PC in December.

XP for me would on occasion randomly freeze with no BSOD or error at all and no entry in the event log as to what caused it - totally bizarre! it would crash just doing nothing, I could game, burn dvds, encode videos etc for 2 weeks straight then all of a sudden I could come home from work to find it just frozen there!

Vista has been super stable though, no issues at all especially now that I got the divx decoding issue in WMP fixed.

You guys that say Aero runs slower than basic, what was the vista base score for your Aero test? I get 5.9 - perhaps it's GFX card/driver (both) related?

I have no speed issues with Aero and it looks way smarter than Basic and of course the Black Mesa v2 visual style I used to have on XP

Its where i suspected it would be but after 16 hours at work i could not be bothered looking.

Anyway ran tests again & now there is no speed difference at all with Aero from the other themes with zoom off.
