So if i build my new Vista PC in a month or so will i be able to install or play any game with starforce?

I personally never had a single problem with starforce on my current rig but know plenty of people have.

I have a few games that i still play that have Starforce protection will they work under vista? also does it make any diffrence if its 32/64 version casue I think i rember someone saying that starforce has 64bit issues.

I'm finding it hard to get true/unbias infomation.

Anyone tried it out?

I've recently found out about starforce but I already had it installed so I didn't know I'll no doubt delete Flatout 2, im not going to buy games with Starforce even though I've not had a problem with it yet my game keeps crashing? weird, anyway I don't want problems, so bye to it.

whats so bad about starforce? :D
Well, take a seat.

Starforce sits in a rather powerful level on your PC, which isn't really appreciated. It also causes some DVD drives to 'step down' sometimes, eventually leading to a useless drive. The people at Starforce, when accused with this, said "Come to use and prove it". This meant flying to Russia with your PC. I believe there was one person who tried, and they got 'palmed off' to different buildings.

Problems have been reported on very few PCs, but there is still a risk.

I've never had any problems, but am not happy with where their driver sits.

Not to mention the fact that when you have a problem, the software vendor tells you to contact Starforce which only results in Starforce saying "It's not our fault, it must be the software. See the software vendor" in very bad English.

I had the run around like that going on for weeks with X3! Egosoft saying see Starforce and visa versa. I'm just glad that the last patch. 2.0.2 actually did away with the need to use Starforce.

I think if they had been nice people overall, they may have avoided all this. I've dealt with them once, and they fixed my issue within a day, no problem. From what I've read (are their forums still live?) I was one of the lucky few.

Again though I've not had a problem with it yet, I can get why people are angry, people shouldn't have to use crapware like that on their computer, outrage tbh.

I know with a couple of my Starforce games, they certainly don't work on Vista x64 because the Starforce driver isn't signed.

the thing that annoys me the most is that startforce is used on UFO:Aftershock, and even though i badly want that game, im not going to get it if it has starforce. there is a website that is allowed to sell that game without starforce, but considering how old the game is, and the fact they are charging full price as if its a brand new very popular game, im not going to go for that either.

starforce is ment to stop people pirating games, and thus stop game devs loosing sales money, but instead, people are boycotting the games BECAUSE it has starforce, and they loose not only money, but reputation. although i have to admit, its not always the devs fault, in the case of ufo aftershock it was not the devs but the company that distributes and sells the game that got starforce put on it.
