Vista and Unknown ACPI device

I've got an Asus A8N-SLI Premium board and Vista HP. An device appears in device manager as Unknown, but when I look at the details about it it does mention ACPI. This device was sometimes also a problem in XP, but it was dead easy to just install the driver available on the Asus website. However, Vista won't have the XP driver for this device. Any idea how to resolve this issue?

I've just looked and there are no Vista drivers.

You just need to install the ACPI driver from the Asus website in XP. However, this doesn't work in Vista.

You don't need any disc if your connected to the internet. Right click on the unknown device in device manager, update driver, automatically from the internet. Give it about 2 minutes, and your driver will be downloaded and installed for you. Probably a lot quicker than it would be digging out that Mobo Disc from its "safe" resting place.

I've tried updating the driver, and it checks online but reports back that 'Windows could not find driver software for your device'.

Hi there, that doesn't work either. The Unknown ACPI device is still there after installing PCProbeII as an Admin.

If you have UAC enabled then this could be causing the problem, try disabling UAC and re-install Probe, if this solves the problem then re-enable UAC.

UAC is already disabled.

BTW, when I installed PC Probe 2, I had to force Vista to install a driver. It obviously wasn't the ACPI driver though.

Thanks, but I'm just going to give up on this ACPI device for now. It seems to be doing no harm without any drivers right now. I might wait for Asus to put out some Vista drivers for my board.

Yeah I'm thinking leaving it alone is the best thing to do
