I've installed Vista on one of my machines (P-M 2.26Ghz, 1gb RAM, 7800GTXGo) and sometimes it seems to run real slow.

If I say play a XViD and Newsleecher is running in the background, it seems to sometimes seem really slow, whereas XP would be lightening. Also, running Scientific Workplace seems to make it slow down, even though on XP it would never break a sweat.

Would sticking 2gb of RAM in this machine help a lot?

uninstalling it and going back to Xp would save you the annoyance and some cash.

VISTA do anything for you that XP didnt?
If the answer is "no" then you know what to do

To be honest, not really! Just feel like its a "peer pressure" upgrade more than anything. I just don't understand why for a while it is fine and keeps my CPU temp at 35C, then suddenly jumps up to 65C when there seems to be nothing going on. For example, one time I have Media Center on with the Nebula and editing with SWP, and the CPU temp is low, then next minute it is sky high. XP never done this..and these are tasks XP handles with ease.

Perhaps its the BDA driver on the Nebula, but that doesn't explain XViD problems...

Observing how Vista does things I get impression that it runs some sort of "on top" prioritization - kind of like "nice" for linux but focus based - the moment you move focus to application it gets slightly higher priority and cpu cycles, so it might not be quite "I have two programs running and cpu load jumps up and down" anymore but more of a "I have two programs running and when one is on the top it creates more load than when it's in the background".

Vista ran faster than XP on my P4 2.6 1GBRAM computer. Make sure your druvers are good. Most probably it because the software isnt Vista compatible yet so i am guessing they hang a lot.

Was that a like for like comparison of a fresh install of Vista as well as a fresh install of XP? Did you run any benchmarking software to test which runs faster?
