How do you stop the file explorer in Vista from being incredibly annoying and auto-sensing "folder types" then changing the view and column set up accordingly?

I want every folder that exists now, and every folder that may or may not be created in the future to be in "Details" view with "Name|Type|Size|Date modified" columns. No exceptions. No need to ever have to override its attempts to be helpful.

Surely this is possible? :(

I had vista from release & never got that problem until about a week ago when i was pushing for a higher CPU/RAM overclocking & boom there it was for the first time that i see many talking about & even after going back to normal clocks the problem remained.

So did a fresh install & went for the overclock & the problem came back.
An unstable system is the only time that problem came up but once it was there it stayed there.

I'm in the same boat as you...seems like manually changing them doesn't work either, as Vista doesn't remember. It's frustrating!
