Got some serious issues with vista and the autoplay feature. 
For some reason it displays briefly when a dvd is put in the drive but disappears after about 1 second!! So before I can choose anything it has gone and after that even right clicking on the dvd drive does not display an option for autoplay.
If I then take the dvd out and put it back in it will do the same thing 90% of the time- the odd 10% it actually works as should do!
What can I do?! I've never had this problem before - the ony thing that springs to mind is that I am using vista x64 now rather than x86
