Vista Beta 2 & 360 doesn't work in the uk

Just thought I would give you 360 gamers a word of warning. If you use it as an MCE Extender don't install the beta 2 version of vista available off Microsoft's website.

The MCE Extender side of vista only works with US XBOX 360's and will always show you an error on the 360 about incorrect disk for region.

I learnt this the hard way.

Aye, found this out myself.

Also having a hard time getting 'normal' media sharing working via WMP11. Can get music to stream no problem to the 360, but cant get it to access pictures at all.

Wish they would have stuck with Media Connect for Vista as that worked perfectly.

Aye, I found this out the hard way too. I also had trouble enabling the library share in WMP11, so much trouble that coupled with another few issues I'm back on XP.

Looked nice and polished for an beta but way too many issues to use it as my main OS just yet.

Sorry to change the subject guys but would you recommend installing this as a dual boot? is it worth having a look at it now or waiting?

Wait, serious. I love new techs and was looking forward to this but there were too many 'essential' things I needed that wouldn't work.

If you really feel you need a look, install it on a different partition else wait for RC1.

I created an image of my XPMCE installation, so can go back to that easily at any time (which I probably will).

To be honest Vista has been perfect for me, apart from the niggling media sharing issues. MS seem intent in making you use WMP 11, which I think is an absolute garbage application

The biggest issue with Vista for a while has been actually getting it to install properly If you can get past that then it's actually pretty good in the later builds. I was hoping they'd take out that region nonsense between the interim build and the beta release build.. I really don't understand the point of it

I agree it is pretty polished and I even got my old HP printer working (with the XP drivers).

My problem is I'm a semi-pro genealogist and my program (Legacy) just plain don't work even in WinXP SP2 emulation mode.

This with the media connect problem meant that even though it ran quite beautifully on my laptop I was forced to return to XP.

Give it a go and if all your apps work I'm sure you'll enjoy the upgrade.

Lol, the way you worded your previous post it sounded like there were major show stopper problems for most people.. not some specific app you were having problems with

Lol, aye. But as this is was a 360 extenders thread and Vista not providing working 360 media connection functionality imo is a pretty big show stopper
