This happens at random and can happen numerous times in a row. Vista will start to boot as normal i.e. the green progress bar and then it will vannish and nothing else will happen and then the screen goes into standby mode.
I notice that when it does boot correctly that after the progress bar vanishes then the mouse pointer appears on the black screen followed by my numnlock LED lighting on the keyboard and then the Windows logo appears and away we go.
I've tried booting without the mouse plugged in and without the keyboard but this makes no difference. I've got all the updates including SP1. The problem occurred before any updates and continues afterwards.
Any ideas?
I am running:
Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Dual Core
MSI K9AGM2-L mATX Board
4GB (2x 2GB) OCZ PC2 6400 Dual CH Gold Edition XTC
Hitachi 160GB SATA II 8MB cache
Palit 8800GT 512MB
Realtek® ALC888 HD Audio (onboard)
Onboard LAN
Razer Copperhead Mouse
Cheap keyboard with no dedicated drivers.
OS: Vista Home Premium 64bit
