Get him to run the "problem reports and solutions", and then check for new solutions to see what that says. It does sometimes give you a fix.

Edit: oh and when does it bsod?

try installing windbg and then opening the crash dump file:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini092807-04.dmp

This at the end should driect you to a file name then post that

Tried re-installing windows vista, still have the bsod's so guess it maybe a hardware problem. I've not had chance to get to check his pc, and therefore not able to install 'Windbg' and to open the crashdump file. He says still bsod after fresh install of vista, but does this not say that it is a software problem if this is on the screen: Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini092807-04.dmp
C:\Users\Ian & Sean\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-92875-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Ian & Sean\AppData\Local\Temp\WERC8AA.tmp.version.txt

I'm only guessing as it says C:\Users\Ian & Sean\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-92875-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Ian & Sean\AppData\Local\Temp\WERC8AA.tmp.version.txt

Does the AppData part not mean it's an application, rather than hardware?

Thanks
