Hi Guys, I have Vista Business from the MSDN AA.

I recently took up the offer from OcUK and purchased 2Gb of Geil PC6400 DDR2 kit, to go with my current 1Gb kit, (2 x 512)

I placed the new RAM in the PC, and removed the old stuff, Vista booted fine, however when i put the 2x 512 chips back in, to give me 3Gb of RAM, vista BSOD before you get to the login screen, I just have the bar, with the green bars going across it.

I know that this is a Vista problem, as when Vista BSOD a few times, i booted in to XP Pro, fine, logged in and under Computer Properties was 3Gb of RAM

Also the BIOS sees 3Gb too.

Any Ideas?

Not a Vista problem at all :) Run Memtest86+ for a day and see how many errors you get. I would recommend loosening the memory timings and possibly even dropping the memory's MHz down a notch.

4 sticks of memory puts a lot of additional load on the MCH.

OK, thanks, I am downlading it now.

Although Vista does RUN with the new RAM, just doesnt like it when i try adding the older chips.

The system is all stock too, no overclocking yet.

Thanks

I'm no expert on solving memory issues so it might be worth having a chat with the guys in the Memory forum. They might advise to increase the voltages of certain things very slightly.
