Not your average question I assure you!

I have a customer whos popped in twice now.... he has Vista Basic. He has bunch of divx/mpeg type files and for some reason they just wont display no video, sound is ok but no picture.

This is with the latest Vista Codec pack that appeared on the net 2-3 days ago(free-codecs.com), even tried the new K-lite Vista codec pack that appeared last week.

Its gotta be a codec issue right? VLC player which I thought worked non stop on any file doesnt display picture!, and Classic Media player reports error cannot find codec.

Ive installed realplayer/quicktime/PowerDVD 7.2 Vista edition..... and usual suspects also along with the Vista codec packs/K lite ones....

Ive copied the file and then ran it on an XP pc and naturally the picture appeared so im stumpted on this one any recommendations or advice chaps ?

Tried installing the latest DivX codec from www.divx.com itself?

Customer has tried that ;)

You know im feelin lazy... perhaps next time he comes in ill just restore his Vista, and then retry.

I just thought there might be some sorta video protection thing going on.....or another issue altogether.

The only codecs I installed with vista is ffdshow, no problems playing any avi, mpeg or divx films

ffdshow is the first ones I tried and they worked. Not had a chance to have a test with any others yet though.

So, give ffdshow a bash and see if that works. :)

Tried FFDshow well it came with klite codecs...

I will try that VLC player fix to opengl thx next time the customer pops back! but its strange how it dont work by default or even in media player 11/MCE system.....

Vista needs SP1 already !
