i've tried vista a few times. just installed it again for a look and thank christ i put it on a seperate disk while my normal xp disks were disconnected because it has damaged my xp install in the past (which is not something i need to happen again anytime soon), and i knew i might not want to keep it, and.......

IT IS SO IMPRESSIVELY, MASSIVELY, FRUSTRATINGLY - ANNOYING

i have a cracking new multifunction printer (canon pixma mp 830) and vista doesn't like it. i have adobe golive and vista doesn't like it. i run sage version 12 and vista doesn't like it. i have alcohol 120% and vista doesn't like it. i didn't even try to install the drivers for my nvidia 7800 cos i've heard vista doesn't like it. i wanted a third party firewall but none of the good ones have a vista version yet.

i know this is not microsofts fault, but the end result is that vista, at this time, just really got on my wick and coming back to xp was a breath of fresh air.

i've just ditched it and gone back to xp. for me, vista performance was great. i had drivers for all my hardware. games played just as well they did in xp except no vsync for pro evo 6. all in all i had no major problems......

but what got me down is all the little niggly things with the user interface. no 'up' button in explorer is crap. the breadcrumb bar is a pain in the ass and it doesn't do what i want and you have to concentrate too hard on what your clicking. also selecting files in explorer is too laggy. i want to right click on files but it responds too slow and i don't get the context menu i want. so you have to click on something, wait a second, and then right click. sorry, that's not good enough.

the save dialog is most apps is a nuisance. always starts minimised so i have to click and drag to make it large enough to be usable.

another pita is the file copy dialog. when i want to overwrite a file, it doesn't show the details of both files. sometimes i need that just to be sure of what i'm doing. in vista i have no such option.

all in all the explorer interface is too clunky and don't get me started on the control panel. what a joke. have to drill down about 4 levels of crap just to do the simplest of tasks. i guess it's good for noobs but there just isn't enough customisation available for the advanced user.

there are loads of other niggles i could moan about but i'll leave it there. :p

Classic control panel tbh, or show it as a link on the start panel.

I agree with the right clicking files comment though, how annoying that is!

If I could be bothered to backup my stuff and re-install XP I would. :)

well nice to know i'm not the only one that is not impressed.

when you first get into it it looks great, but when i came back to xp that does what i want it to, xp looked better.

Not bothered by the slow copy speed? :)

i'm not sure what you mean? backing up files to my external drive takes the same time in vista as it did in xp.... besides even if it did take longer i wouldn't be bothered as i always leave my pc unattended when backing up. :p

I mean getting speeds of about 10mb/s when copying, but the drive benchmarking at around 30mb/s. :)

There was a thread on it a while back.

I just ditched vista aswell and went back to XP. Just got Supreme commander today and it kept either crashing to desktop or causing a BSOD with the Process_has_locked_pages thing. It got rather frustrating, plus the fact there are no decent XFI drivers available.

i went back to xp after finding i couldn't play titan mode under vista i got a ctd when loaded the new map / a memory error.dll i don't know what to blame maybe my xfi maybe my 8800 or maybe just 2142. i had no real probs with vista until 2142 conquest runs fine supplyslines mode runs fine just titan that goes wrong.

Then direct your complaint at the Adobe, Sage and Canon etc.
