Vista CPU Licences

This might be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway..

I've heard that XP only licences 2 CPU cores to run. With the arrival of quadcore processors, will Vista increase the licence so to include 4 CPUs? Or will an additional licence be required?
 
XP and Vista both license by socket, not by core. XP already works with quad core CPU's and XP Pro works with dual socket motherboards. Vista Home Premium is good for 1 socket and business/ultimate is good for 2 or more (not sure of the exact figure).

Yep, licence by socket with unlimited cores.
