System specs as follows:
Asus MB PNT-5 Delux
8400 Core2 duo
4GB OCZ mem
BFG 280 GTX h2o
1000w Corsair psu
4 x hd, 2 x 200GB, 1 x 250 Gb and 1 x 1TB
Vista refuses to boot in the normal mode. It always defaults to safe mode, even if I use F8 and select boot normally. I accept that this is happening because the operating system still thinks there is a problem. The system was working as it should last night when I installed Fallout 3 + update. Before I went to bed I set the defrag program to defrag all the drives and then shut down. This morning the system had not shut down because I had left Outlook open and it was asking me if I wanted to continue the shutdown and loose any unsaved work. I cancelled the shutdown and closed Outlook manually, then shut down the system. A few hours later the computer was powered up and loaded into windows. The monitor then shut down reporting no signal, about 30 sec later the monitor was back online reporting mem dump, computer then shut down. It will now only boot into vista safe mode.
I have tried the following. System restore to two previous dates – no help. Removed all USBs from the computer, loaded msconfig and unselected all the start up programs – no help. My Saitek usb keyboard is also going loopy when plugged into the system. Vista report that the caps lock is on and when I press a key once it continues as if it has been held down. I have resorted to an old ps2 keyboard to fault find.
I have removed the mb batt and set the cmos jumper to clear, in 30 min I will start up again and have another go. I have had this problem before and not been able to solve it, this resulted in a operating software re-install. That was a ball ache and I don’t want to do it again. (lost all COD 4 saved games, was General now working my way back up again.......)
Any advice will be gladly received.
Justin
Result, ok I went into msconfig, boot options, and unselected the safe boot option. Loads into vista now, still no idea what caused it....
