Hey guys,

I've been on vista x64 for over a year and the operating system's own disk defragger still says my disk's performance is 'good.'

On xp you could tell when you needed to defrag your disks because your machine would come to a standstill... is vista that much better at managing the level of fragmentation :p

Are there any freeware apps out there for vista that will allow me to see the level of fragmentation on my disks via a nice gui?

Cheers!

-smart defrag
-JK defrag - Now 'mydefrag'
-Defraggler
-Auslogics disk defrag

I use Auslogics personally there is no true best program there performance between them real world would be v.small, all comes down to features, speed, user interface and reliability so you should give them all a whirl

A feature I like within the Auslogics defrag is that you can set it to only defrag files under a certain size for example only defrag files 1MB and under or 10MB and under, this reduces the time you spend defragging and its pointless to defrag files over 10MB I would say

Used Defraggler on the basis that it would be awesome coz it's by Piriform. I used it, left it on from 40% overnight and day until I got home. Only 43% done. Did it crash or what?

I've been off of my pc all night and apart from checking its progress once in-between films, it only got to about 60% of the way through after about 3 hours... then I got an msn message at about 11 and it just froze!

Could have been just a one off, but I'm going to try something else now.

I still rate ccleaner :D
