Hey all

Is there ANYWAY to get Vista to automatically increase the size of the columns in details view to however long the longest file/foldername is? Im sure im not the only one bugged by this and having to constantly double click on column headers to get them to expand.

I would also love to know this! Also, I keep changing a folder to arrange the files by size, but it never stays that way!
How do you make it remember settings?!

A single folder or all folders? If all folders use:

Press Alt to open Title Bar Menu - Tools - Folder Options - View - Apply to all folders

If a single folder it should remember your settings but if not under Tools - Folder Options is a setting "Remember each folders view settings". Make sure thats ticked.

It still won't work for all folders, that's because there are different folder types now and if it finds one stupid picture or one stupid mp3 file it decides the folder is of media type and will still revert to "Artist, Rating, Schlong Size" type of view.

Another annoying thing about explorer in Vista is no refresh on folder view when you use cursor keys. When you use cursor keys to navigate left hand side panel in explorer, the right hand side won't display what's in that folder until you press enter or space. Like you were navigating folder tree just for the sake of doing so. I still can't believe they let some kind of point and click idiot design explorer in Vista and not test iit with laptop users...

I thought it was just me having a nightmare with folders! Most of my folders seems to be for music, even when there is no music to be seen.

I keep setting the My Computer view to tiles, but that never sticks.

Anyway, regarding your 'refresh' problem.... have you tried pressing F5?

Its not about refreshing, its more about displaying the information in the right hand side pain. If you navigate explorer with a keyboard only, you can tab to the different windows, press left or right to open up/close folders but to display the contents of a highlighted folder you need to press enter on it to get it to display in the right hand side pain. This is what v0n was moaning about.

Oh right, i see what you mean. If you want to see whats in side a folder you have to press Enter :D Never really noticed that

Personally i think thats a good thing. You ever booted a computer to have to mouse and had to navigate windows with the keyboard (well you're doing it now), and unless you keep you finger pressed on the down arrow, you get stuck on the floppy drive and it thinks you want to use it.... or the cd drive .... or the virtual drive

I had a look around but couldn't find a way around your query, sorry :( May i recommend you purchase as mouse ;)
