Sealed in my Sarcophagus.
Ive been using a netgear DGN2000 adsl modem/router for about 6 months now with no issue.

Lately i found that on bootup both my vista64 machines would report that no cable was plugged in on the network properties. The relevant port light on the router just flashed once every few seconds.

If i powered off the router for about 5 mins and turned it back on it would then work. I tested the router with my xp laptop and no such issue occured.

The problem now is all the time, the router simply wont negotiate with the vista pcs at all.

I recently switched BB from zen to O2 and have found that the o2III box works fine with both the vista pcs!.

After a bit of searching i found a few articles suggesting that the vista DHCP is incompatible with some routers, and that there is a registry fix to turn a flag off. I have tried this and it has not worked.

see here... http://thedaneshproject.com/posts/vista-not-working-with-dhcp/

and here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233

So to summarise, the 2 pcs work fine on the o2 router... meaning the network cards work. The netgear router works fine on the xp laptop ( all ports ) meaning that also works. So logic suggests the problem is with vista. The fact it has happened on 2 pcs of different spec and NIC brands suggests that its an update thats buggered something.

Any suggestions? ive tried reinstalling the NIC drivers, applying the registry fix and so on, to no avail. I have also tried setting the pcs manually ( ips ) but i still get the "no cable attached" situation.

Has no one else had this annoying problem?

Ive been messing about all day now and still no joy. Driving me nuts... ive tried my the laptop from next door and also my GF's work laptop on the netgear router ( both xp ) and they work fine both wirelessly and wired. But the 2 vista machines just ignore the router. And of course ive tried different cables and so on :p

No firmware i can find, and if you read the first post you can see i have already tried manual Ip's. When i do this i still get the "cable not attached" situation happening after approx 5 seconds.
