Just got vista ultimate \o/ and love all the new features.

However after fully installing 2142 w/all patches and expansion (northern strike) successfully, it refuses to start the game.

When I try to start it, it comes up with an error saying: "please insert battlefield 2142 Install Disc and select OK to retry".

I've tryed running in windows xp sp2 compatability mode AND as administrator but neither work.

It keeps doing this even after reinstalling it 3 times.

Although the first time I did, when it asked if I wanted to install gamespy comrade it hung for a while and didn't move, so I ended the task as it asks this after installing the game so I thought it would be fine, but no shortcuts were installed and the game didn't start at all then. I had to manually uninstall it following the instructions on EA's support site LINK .

SO I assumed that it didn't install the game properly that time. Now though each time it installs it hangs on the gamespy part again but then carries on the the final "finished" page.

I hope I've given enough information.

2142 Is a very buggy game. I had all these problems and more, but since i moved to vista x64 ive had no problems whatsoever. (apart from the random CTD, but thats common across all platforms).

These is a fix out somewhere for the insert cd problem. www.totalbf2142.com try there.
 
I run BF2 and BF2142 on vista Ultimate with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Didn't install gamespy either.

Is this installed from disk or downloader?

Did you install patch 1.25 before and after Northern Strike?

You must do so

Pukbuster can cause some errors like this have you been to www.evenbalance.com and installed manually?
 
Before AND after? I did it in the order they came out so:

1.10 -> 1.20 -> northern strike -> 1.25

does it create an error or something?

I'll try punkbuster as that gave me grief in xp after the 1.25 patch as it kept kicking me from games.

I'll have a look at that link aswell and then report back :)

Ok I've got the game to start which is a plus but now it won't join any servers.

If I try to join one, the "joining server" windows comes up and then nothing else happens, it just stays like that and I can't do anything but press alt + F4 to exit.

Have you installed punkbuster and updated.

Also have you installed the service checker:-

Then check your firewall is allowing everything through.

Ensure you delete the folder created in my documents as well. It will recreate when game loads.

Also ensure you have right clicked and run as administrator.
