Vista Doesn't See Hard Disk After OEM Install

Hi,

I've just installed Vista Home Premium 64-bit OEM and it doesn't show one of my SATA hard disks in My Computer. The disk is present in Device Manager though and is ok in the BIOS.

I've been running RC1 since September with no problems at all...this has just shown up since I installed the OEM version. There's been no hardware changes at all...things are OK in RC1 but not in the retail version.

I've re-installed RC1 and the drive is detected OK...re-installed OEM and it's not there in My Computer.

Any Ideas?

I'm guessing it's down to it being a dynamic disk, it'll just need imported in Disk Management or whatever the Vista equivalent is.

If it's anything like XP (not played with Vista yet) the right click on My Computer and pick Manage, then pick Disk Management from the left hand tree, the snap in should open to the right. Your extra disk should show as being foreign or something like that, right click on the grey icon thing to the left of the bar and pick "Import Foreign Disk".

I've found it and you were right...it's listed as a dynamic disk instead of a basic disk. I can convert it but I'll lose the data on it so I need to back it up first.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks!

You shouldn't need to convert it, it should be accessible once it's been imported. Did you get the option to import it as a foreign disk?
