Vista doesn't start - all my data at risk

Hi,

I've just finished my first build, and transferred my hard drive from my old computer to my new one. Vista (ultimate) now doesn't start at all. It gets to the point where the green bars would scroll across the screen, and promptly reboots.

I've run the repair utility, and it whilst it "applies repairs" vista still doesn't start.

I suppose I should have seen this coming, i mean everything about the computer changed...amd to intel...different motherboard. No surprise vista doesn't start.

The problem is I can't lose all my data, and I don't have anywhere else to install a new copy of vista to (no hdd space), so i'm operating system-less.

Also ubuntu doesn't start. It just freezes...am sure it's a graphical problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Take out your HDD, put into a friends PC as a slave and copy your data.
Reinstall your drive in your PC and reinstall Vista. Make sure that it is a retail version and not OEM as OEM licenses cannot be transferred.
BTW it is not a good idea to try and boota n existing OS onto a new hardware configuration.

if you do rebuild your machine, create 2 partitions on the disk, one for the OS and apps and one for your data. I haven't had a single partition/disk for longer than i can remember...
