Vista dual boot and sound problems

Hi there, I need some help.

First of all I have installed Vista RC1, played with it and got rid of it, only to find windows still gives me a dual boot option (I had it running with XP). How do I get rid of this? Also, I no longer have the Vista dvd.

My other problem is I have recently done a software update (XP) and the sound drivers I have been allocated have made all my sounds increase in frequency, so everything is faster and higher pitched like chipmunks! How do I change back? Roll back does not appear to do anything, and my sound card is just an on board one, so how do I find out myself which are the correct drivers?

Thank you for taking the time to read this far, I look forward to any help you can give me.

right click on my computer > properties > advanced > settings (under start up and recovery).

Edit.

You should have a notepad open with something like
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Vista" /fastdetect

Just delete the whole vista line. Make sure you make a back up of the file first though.

The start > run > msconfig > boot.ini > check all boot paths. Just to check you didn't mess the syntax.

Job done.

vista doesn't use the boot.ini

Surley it does in this case.

Xp already installed thus using boot.ini, then vista is installed, surely vista has to then edit the boot.ini or does it do it some other way?

vista has its own boot manager which it uses forgetting about boot.ini

you can however uninstall this boot manager and give vista a boot.ini file

google for VistaBootPRO 3.1 :)

This truly is not the case, I have a very normal looking boot.ini

Have already tried that, as I no longer have Vista installed, it does nothing. Which is why I don't understand why there is still the option to boot to it. :confused:

I've told you what to do mate, haven't you tried downloading the easyBCD. That will sort it, 100% :)

Sorry, forgot to say. Thank you very much for easyBCD, did exactly what I wanted!

No luck with the sound though, I found a program that will scan my pc and tell me which drivers need updating, but then charges to install them! Any more suggestions?

Ah :) thought you'd not sorted the boot menu.

Have you tried sandra to find out the make/model of the soundcard, then just visit the manufactures website for the correct drivers.

This program at least works, but doesn't really tell me what sound drivers I need. Thanks for the help so far, at least I can boot straight into XP!
