Behind you... Naked!
Silly and annoying one that Im unsure of here...

O/S = Vista 64 Ultimate ( Unactivated at this time )

I use FireFox to browse
I use Windows Mail to... Erm, EMail.

Ok, when I click on a link in Windows Mail, for example, any replies to this, then the FireFox browser does open up the window with the correct page open etc, however, another smaller window opens up saying that it is unable to open the window?

This small window is opened up by Windows Mail, not Firefox

The PC is up to date with all its gubbins etc

Any cklue how to cure it because this time round, Vista has installed very well and the number of issues I have, have been small compared to previous times and I would really like to get the errors sorted rather than go back yet again.

All I can think is that it is something to do with Firefox. Try removing it and see how IE performs. If that is working fine then install Firefox - once that's done see how it goes.

I just use the standard IE and have no problems with anything like that so assuming it must be a Firefox configuration.

Ok... Interesting...

Right, I know its got nothing to do with Firefox. I did try IE and then FF and even Safari as my main browser and no matter which one gets loaded up upon a click of a link in Mail, the dialog box comes up.

However, PCs keep amazing me every day with their stupidity and complete lack of logic, so, uninstalled FireFox, and Safari, and I now have only IE in.

Still does the same thing, but only this time, IE does not then load up... It just shows the dialog box, and now no links work at all from inside Windows Mail?

I am going to re-install FireFox so I can at least get my browser working properly again.

I just bloody knew it was too good to be true... Vista once again fannying about on me.

Ok, Reinstalled FireFox, and its sorted the webpages not coming up, but the dialog box is still there!

Just Windows Mail being a turd then it seems?

I have just done the Windows Updates and there is an ATI update ( Even though I have the latest CATS ) so I will do that and have a look later on..

Yes, its been fine for me too... It just started doing it yesterday, or maybe the day before?

Also, now its opening up the page twice now?

Addition.

Now when I click on a link, IE7 opens up... 2 pages as before.

The thing is, that in IE7, I have set it to make sure that it is NOT the Default browser. In Firefox, I have made sure that FireFox IS the default.

But even though both IE and FF know, that FF is the Default... IE still is the one that opens up, never FF ?

Any clues on that one?

Definately got to be a configuration issue. All I can suggest is (if you have System Restore turned on) going back to before you installed FireFox the first time and seeing if that helps you.

Once you have your system running perfectly then install it and see what happens.

No, I dont have System Restore.

To be honest, FireFox was installed VERY early on anyway, so doing a Restore would have taken the system right back.

I have uninstalled FF for now anyway... I know that FF in itself is not the problem. There is always that shadow of doubt of course, but it has never done htins on any of my other PCs, and nor has Outlook Express, while Vista on the other hand has never run right and that has caused me to constantly go back to XP64.

This time however is the one time that Vista has seemingly run right and to have just this small issue come up, and lets be honest, it is a small issue that I will either get used to ( Im almost there now TBH ) or it will cure itself somehow.

I dont know? - Is there any way to revert Windows Mail back to genesis without affecting the rest of it all?

I might have a play about later on in *** configs etc and see if anything shows anything else up, but why it brings up 2 pages I really dont know?

Thanks mate.

Hey, just thought I add a note.

its now working again.

I went to install O&O Defrag and it told me that the SYSTEM was still in the middle of installing DOTNET ( EH? ) turns out that it had somehow been corrupted and once I sorted that out, it got Windows Mail repaired as well as a couple of other minor issues.

Cheers for the help.

No problem though I don't think we helped that much!

The only other thing I could think of was to try the Windows Updates and checking the Event Logs to see if any of that through some kind of light onto it.

Glad you have got it sorted though.

Maybe you did, maybe you didnt.

But whenever I ask something, I know that if I get a reply, it might spark something off... Sometimes its meaningles, sometimes its not, but it may eventually get to the root of the problem.

I dont always aknowledge people when they answer my replies, but I do listen to everythign everybody says, even when I contradict myself or their replies because even when you know the answer and oyu know you are right... Sometimes you are not. No matter how good you think you are.

Hell. Its back.

Why I dont know?

Anyway, I have a list of issues that only started the minute I activated Vista ( And it no longer thinks its activated, by the way ) and so, its been a nice close one and I have enjoyed using Vista and I really wanted to go over fully, but the fact remains that its still just too unreliable for me on this machine at this time.
