Vista Extraction poo!

47 Minutes? Got to be something wrong hardware wise

What are you system specs? SP1 may fix the issue, Try RC you can always uninstall it if need be quite easily.

Nothing wrong with Vista mate.

I compressed a full DVD down to 4.7gig, winrar'd it up and extracted it in about 8 minutes.

Check your hardware.

Thats the thing. I can rip a DVD to my harddirve in about 5 minutes flat and we're talking 6GB for that.

I'm extracting about 8 folders from one large folder roughly 3Mb each (give or take).

My hardware is just not the issue.

OMG! Have I said I dont like Vista? NO, so how about you find somewhere else to post! I'm just asking, why Vista is taking 47 minutes to extract a 20Mb folder.

What app are you using to unzip the thing, and what are the contents of that zip - not sure if that is of any use but what the hell. 47mins is well off (well obviously), so it sounds like maybe the unzipping process may be running at a low priority or something?

Yup try another app. I've used WinRAR for years, which handles every common format around and its never given me a single issue decompression wise. I've never tried the built in zip/unzip features in XP/Vista - they just look poorly implemented.

Winzip is an actual program. But yes, using Vista's own file compression thing takes absolutely ages. It is something that's wrong with Vista; I've seen it on numerous systems.
