right no matter what I have done. enabled disabled shared unshared. set permissions to everything. followed all the tech guides etc nothing works in vista its a farce.

my neighbour on my network has 4 partitions over 2 drives. I can access 2 of them no problem but no matter what I do I cannot access the others. access is denied

Why are you bloody denied access to something that is OPEN to everyone and the sharing is set as it should be, it wont even allow me the option of using simple sharing just chucks you straight to the advanced rubbish.

I have never had bad word to say about vista until now. file sharing compared to xp is frankly ******** !!

any suggestions other than tell my neighbour to get a mac aswell or both go back to xp

1. “Click Windows Visa Start Orb
2. In search box, type “regedit” and return
3. Once regedit opens, click File -> export to make a backup copy
4. Navigate to Computer HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Lsa.
5. In the right pane, right-click the “LmCompatibilityLevel” key and select “modify”
6. Change the value from 3 to 1
7. Exit regedit and you should now be able to properly authenticate to your Mac OS X (or other Samba) share.”

That worked for me!

From Vista to OSX.
