I'm a big fan of of Vista already and I want to convert over from xp as soon as possible, but there's a couple of things holding me back:
-No drivers for my Linksys wireless adapter
-Visual Studio 2005 is a bit buggy

So that makes connecting to the internet a pain and I cant do my uni work. Other than that i think its a great os.

Well there's my 2 cents, but my question is, when do you think all the major bugs will be fixed by? i.e. proper driver support for hardare, and some of the larger software problems?

What problems are you experiencing with VS 2005? I've been using it to develop a few web apps (c# and running off a mysql db) and haven't experienced any problems yet. There is a patch to download from MS website which fixes some problems with vs2005 and vista.

Not used it too much tbh, only making very basic C programs but it sometimes crashes with no warning and sometimes I get odd error messages when compiling (it works fine in xp with same code). It's more things i've heard from a couple of other people i know that are having problems who are in a similar situation to myself. But thanks for the heads up for the patch, will investigate immediately :) .

Does the windows update function tend to cover most programs or does it focus more on specific vista related problems leaving you to find patches for other problems, i.e. lack of wireless support?

I think the vista update function should cover most stuff, although it didn't cover the vs2005 vista fix (Theres one for mssql too). You have to search the MS site for these.

There is a beta version of a Vista compataibility patch, which I think fixes most of the problems (although of course the full version will undoubtadly be better) - I would have thought that using VS2005 for a little bit of casual coding wouldn't cause many problems.
