I've recently moved to Vista, on xp I had all my music and films so that the folder displayed everything in alphabetical groups. So I had everything in A under the first section, B the next etc.
I want to do this in Vista but cant seem to do it how I want it. If you go to view>group by>name it seperates into sections like how I want, but the sections are A-H, I-P, Q-Z. I cant work out how to get it so that each section is just an individual letter rather than a group.

Any one throw some light on it, sure i'm missing something silly.

I believe you have the files 'stacked' as MS like to use in Vista, right click in the folder and go to Stack By, and choose none, then do it as you would in XP.

Its exactly the same as XP in terms of getting it the way you want, the only plus is that you can expand and contract the groups, as well as say open all of a particular group by right clicking on the title bit and choosing the option etc.

What bites my nuggets is that Vista (on both my machines) seemingly forgets my view settings and just randomly arranges it how it likes, which for someone like me drives me nuts, almost enough to go back to XP! :p

Thanks for the help but either I don't understand your method or it doesnt work.

In XP you could go to group by name and it would group everything in A together, everything in B together etc, having a seperate section for each letter, which is what im after. In Vista however no matter what I seem to do grouping by name always creates sections A-H, I-P and Q-Z. Which I don't understand the point in to be honest.
