Hi there, I've been given a copy of Vista Business but also have XP Pro SP2, although building a new rig soon my current one is:

Athlon Xp2400
KT400 moby
1gb DDR
6800GS 512mb (agp)

Could actually max CSS on this system while on a clean install of xp, I'm just about to format and was wondering if game performance would take a hit upgrading to vista (32bit) and if so, what the damage would be.

Also does anyone have a link handy guide to overclocking with an old chipset/cpu like this?

Cheers!

well i have a 3700, 7600gt, 2gb.
now my fps with cs: s in windows was about 80ish give or take.
now in vista its about 30ish. give or take. thats from memory

in wow xp was about 65 most of the time.
in vista iam lucky to keep 35 tbh.

hope that helps.

thanks, you confirmed my fears, is that with aero turned off by the way?

think I'll stick with xp pro then

I didnt affect my FPS so much. I had Vista 64 and i only lost about 5-10 FPS in CSS and my FPS was around 140'ish FPS.

ive just gone this weekend from winXP to vista64, all the latest drivers i could find for everything and css runs amazing i have an e6600, 4gb ram, 8800GTS, wdraptor to run it all on (again as of this weekend)

if you have a system with the power then vista runs it fine and dandy at max settings and the drivers to me seem fine

wouldnt install it on that on you mentioned but its worth taking under consideration depending on what your upgrading too :)

so far i havent had any problems with vista at all (surprising really considering its getting so much stick from everyone)

Yeh ive got a fairly decent rig well capable of running CSS, i play at 1680 by 1050 with every setting maxed and i didnt notice that much of a FPS drop. However vista sucked for me, couldnt play cod2 multiplayer and variuos other things.

Best advice is just install it see how it goes if some things dont work or you notice a heavy FPS drop then just reinstall XP, thats what i did.
