Hi there,

Im trying to fix one of my Pc's, and a new problem has occurred which i've never heard/seen before.

Basically all i can tell you about the problem is that when the computer is left alone for 3+ hours plus, the computer 'stops'. Any thing like cap lock, scroll lock on the keyboard they all turn off, but the actual computer is still on but doesn't respond.

I've looped a stress test for a day, and it didnt crash and done memory tests.

As far as i know and can test the hardware is 100% ok - temps are all fine. So it must a be a software issue; but why its only just started i dont know.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello h2009, I belive what you are experiencing is the system going into sleep mode which is absolutely fine. However, as you are and a few other people have experienced before, is that when your system goes into sleep mode, no matter what you do, you can't wake the system up.

If you are using a USB mouse and/or keyboard, you need to disable the "Allow this device to wake the computer". You can do this by typing "Device Manger" into the start menu search bar and hitting enter. Once the "Device Manager" window has popped up, navigate to either your USB mouse and/or keyboard and expand the options and then right click and select "Properties". Select the "Power Management" tab and then uncheck the "Allow this device to wake the computer" and click "Ok".

Hopefully this should resolve the issues that you are experiencing.

If you would like to disable the "Sleep" option completely then simply type "Power Options" into the start menu search bar and hit enter. On the left hand side, click on the "Change when the computer sleeps" option. Once the next screen appears (Edit Plan Settings), you can either customize or completely turn of the "Sleep" option.

Their are also a number of different power management options in Windows Vista and you can access and customize them by clicking on the "Change advanced power settings" which is located on "Edit Plan Settings" screen. :)
