Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Vista, and still having a Sound Blaster Live! card the sound is... well... ship.

I've been looking at the 'Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music' as well as the 'Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer', after a bit a search it seems the Music one is better and the fact that the OEM version is cheaper than the Gamer Retail, I was thinking about going for the Music.

My problem is, I've tried searching for whether it's good for Vista or not. Doesn't Vista use OpenAL or something? Will I get full surround sound (I use the 5.1 Headphones) with the Music Card on Vista?

Thanks in advance.

vista doesnt support EAX... and please edit your post. Swearing is not allowed on these forums... X-fi soundcards with vista should provide full surround sound with the latest drivers.

Thanks (and post edited).

However, I'd really like a definite answer as I don't want to throw away ~£50 on something that doesn't work well with my machine. :)

got my xtreamgamer today, and still having problems with it, the drivers from creative website install, i reboot and its as if i never installed anything, yet they show up in controlpanel. So i let windows try installing the card and it asked for the cd so i stuck that in and i have sound, but no xfi menu/settings and my mic is very very poor! over all a pain in the you no what.

Vista Ultimate and running X-FI Fatality Pro Extreme Gamer.

Just basic drivers from Creative, will wait for rest of software package.

You can go get the "youpax" version if you so desire.

Card works fine with no problems at all for me.

If you get it site it in the lowest possible pci slot.

Just to elaborate on that, Creative provide a bit of software called ALchemy that converts all your EAX stuff to OpenAL so you shouldn't miss out on much.

I'm pretty sure it's still in beta but my experience has been good with it for those "older" EAX games.

Thanks a lot for the reply guys, was very helpful. :)

My current sound card is slotted (that a word?? ^^) at the bottom, so that was some dumb luck. :D

Looks like I may as well get it, and have a look for the ALchemy software. ^^
