So vista has this nifty games folder thingymajig that automatically pulls the info of your installed games off the net and gives it a nice icon and any available information....

However, it's not doing it for Quake 2? Why not? Surely the game's not too old? It does it for Starcraft and UT and these are ancient as well?

If Quake 2 simply isn't supported by this system then can anyone point me to a better looking icon than that one?

Personally I think it's pretty good that it picked up Quake 2 at all, crappy icon or not :p

All newer games have fairly hi-res icons associated with them and Vista simply displays these.

Yeah, this is annoying me as well. Some of my games aren't pulling down the box art. Most old games should use the .dll file located in the windows folder. Newer games need a GDF that includes the information.

I did manage to create custom GDF files using the Game Definition File Editor, but I fell down at the point where I needed to integrate it with the game itself.

Actually, I think Vista gets the image for the icon from somewhere on the internet like Amazon or Play.com. This shows you how to change it. Not sure if it works as I don't have Vista and haven't tried it, but its worth a shot.

I tried this but it doesn't work. :/

does it let you manually edit the entires, or suggest information for ms to use? (this is where ms lack sometimes, non customisationability :p )
