Vista + Games

actually no - on my xp3200 games don't run well at all... only tried Just Cause and Defcon (defcon takes essentially nothing to run).

in just cause it was unplayable, jumping around, and in defcon the mouse jumped and made it impossible to play. booted back into xp and both run fine :S

Cant get me planetside working in RC1 so im gonna say vista is abit naff for games. worked in beta2 but wasnt nice to play, very glitchy. (well ..more glitchy then normal lol)

vista seems quite a backward step in that its noticable slower at everything compared with xp on the same machine. with the gpu hardware acceleration thing going on, one would think it would be more responsive but it sux :/

I wont be upgrading to vista untill forced to by vista games that are worth playing.

Because it is beta software. Meaning it isnt complete. XP Betas and RC's were exactly the same. When it was released, it was fine.

XP was ok on release IF you had good drivers.

allot of gaming problems will be driver related and TBH thats what will hold me back on my new vista build PC for the first month or 2 after release.

Not many problems are reported on productivity apps on vista that ive seen / noticed.

From what I have read, games are struggling BIG time on Vista. I wont be upgrading any time soon unless this is fixed or disproved:
Code:
Gaming/Graphics Performance (FPS)

                                       Vista 5728 XP SP2

3DMark06 5615 5798
Half-Life 2: Episode 1 (No AA) 94.4 103.6
Half-Life 2: Episode 1 (4x AA) 84.49 86.4
Battlefield 2 (No AA) 55.1 77.96
Battlefield 2 (4x AA) 52 77.11
FEAR (No AA) 52 70
FEAR (4x AA) 32 52

Page three on this article. As the article notes - thats a reduction for all games tested, and 40% for FEAR.

Only been playing BF2 on vista (a lot) and there is very little difference in fps, or eye candy to XP. All in all I'm very happy with it, and once the final version is out the drivers will get better. Plus as said its all about DX10 :)

Has anyone tried Company Of Heroes on Vista yet?

I noticed that the box is all jazzed up with MS's "Games For Windows" logos, and also categorically states Vista as compatible in the SysReqs...

And Vista x64 no-less! I am just going to order my copy of the game to give it a whirl.

why does no one realise that there is basically ZERO driver supposrt for vista just now, Lets be fair, MS have rewritten DirectX and the whole OS to a stage where creative have to start rewriting X-FI drivers from scratch, Nvidia dont even have SLI working,

Its laughable that some of you expect it to play games aswell as XP when its only at RC1 stage with barely enough drivers provided by the "big" manufacturers to get you to the desktop and play an mp3

At the same time we hear all the moaners saying "Gee i dont see the difference between XP and Vista" Well just cause it dont look different doesnt mean they havent changed the lot underneath and thats what hardware manufacturers are dealing with, Moan cause its the same or moan cause they changed it, how do they win?

In the long run vista looks like it will be the best gaming os yet, just read around and there is plenty it has going for it.

Rant over
